Drupal API Dreamweaver extension important update

Just a quick note to say that Chris over at xtnd.us contacted me recently regarding the updated Drupal API for Dreamweaver extension.

It's now in beta 2 with a full release expected for Q4 2008, and according to Chris "code coloring works, plus Dreamweaver can understand Drupal file types naturally now - like .module, .info, .theme, .install, etc."

Update: Dreamweaver CS3 Extension For Drupal Theming

Around three months ago I wrote about a Dreamweaver CS3 extension for Drupal theming which was being developed by Peter Apokotos, and about which a discussion was happening at the time on the themes mailing list. In the meantime another extension has been discussed on the mailing list, as well as on drupal.org, this time being developed by Sherif Mayika.

The two projects are currently completely separate. According to Sherif, his extension will have support for versions 4,5, and 6 of Drupal and is soon to reach beta. I contacted Peter about the progress of his extension and he told me that 'we have a working extension with just about everything but the kitchen sink in it.' So it looks like Drupal theming is going to be getting some Dreamweaver extension love anytime soon.

One thing that, as far as I'm aware, neither Sherif nor Peter have confirmed yet is whether the extensions will be free or not.

Dreamweaver CS3 Extension For Drupal Theming

Just a quick post today to let everyone know that there's an interesting discussion happening on the themes mailing list right now about the possibility of developing a Drupal theming extension for Dreamweaver CS3.

As someone who uses Dreamweaver for almost all of my coding I'm certainly interested to see what might come of this. Kieran Lal from CivicSpace has already raised a very interesting point about the ability of a Dreamweaver extension to actually attract new designers, because an extension could help bridge the gap between a product they know (Dreamweaver) and a product they want to get to know (Drupal). Certainly, I think that anything which can help attract new designers, and folks in general, to Drupal would be beneficial to the project as a whole.

Those who are interested in joining the list just need to head on over to http://lists.drupal.org/mailman/listinfo/themes and sign up. I'm sure that all suggestions and/or offers of help for development etc. would be most welcome.
